MCT Process Flowchart

Three distinct steps define Metal Core Technology process. They are:
Step 1. Cast Metal Core.
Step 2. Over-Mold Core in Plastic.
Step 3. Melt-Out Metal Core from Plastic Part.

flow chart

The production process begins with the manufacture of a single metal core, or multiple metal cores which when assembled form a core set, in a low melting temperature alloy correctly chosen for its contributing physical properties. This operation is performed utilizing one of CoreTech's proprietary MD Series metal dispensing systems and the dedicated core tooling mounted on this equipment.

Once the metal core is formed, it is manually or robotically removed from the core tool and loaded to the plastic tool for resin over-molding.

Following molding of the plastic component, the part is removed and forwarded to the melt-out station. There the metal core is extracted via a thermal or thermal/induction heating process, this without negative effect to the molded part.

Following water-wash/air-dry, the core-free plastic component is ready for any post-manufacturing operation, QC and packaging.
